Is the Stock Market Halal?
Look at the business, the transaction and the way you participate.
Start with ownership
A share is an ownership interest in a business. Understanding that business is a starting point, but the transaction structure and funding also matter.
Ask four practical questions
What does the company do? How is it financed? Which screening methodology is being followed? Is the underlying information current?
Do not treat a label as permanent
Businesses and financial statements change. Screening platforms may use different methods and data dates. Keep a record of the standard and date used, and review new information.
Where scholarly guidance matters
Short-term trading, settlement, possession, financing and certain instruments can involve differing scholarly views. A general article cannot decide the position for your specific circumstances. Consult a qualified Islamic-finance scholar.
